US Six Largest Automakers Pleased with the Decision of US ITC

In Washington: Six of the largest automobile companies in the US namely DaimlerChrysler, Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan and Toyota have recently joined together in a trade case with the objective of revoking the duties on corrosion resistant steel due to concerns such as accessibility and availability of competitively priced steel.

The six automakers were so pleased when the decision was released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) revoking the anti-dumping and countervailing duty orders on corrosion resistant steel from countries like Australia, France, Canada and Japan. The ITC has left orders on imports coming from Korea and Germany.

Stephen E. Biegun, Vice President, International Government Affairs, Ford Motor Company has this to say, "We are pleased that the ITC revoked most of the duties. All of these duties are outdated and hurt American manufacturing competitiveness and U.S. jobs while needlessly helping a steel industry that is now profitable and healthy."

Toyota Motor North America Group Vice President has also given her comment saying, "Today's decision is a major step forward in restoring needed competition to the U.S. steel market. The ITC's decision supports both a strong steel industry and a strong auto industry, and we look forward to working with our colleagues in the steel industry to continue to strengthen manufacturing in the United States."
